MV Kittitas on a stormy day

Taken from the Mukilteo Lighthouse park.

Kayaker in todays windstorm. Near Mukilteo Lighthouse

Today I went out to photograph some of the extreme weather that we've been having today. I went down to the Mukilteo Lighthouse to photograph the waves and hopefully get some dramatic shots of the waves washing over the ferries as they crossed between Mukilteo and Whidbey Island. Didn't really get any great shots of that, but just as I was about to leave, this guy shows up and starts kayaking around the area! I let rip a whole bunch of shots and got quite a few good ones. The setting sun, the wind whipped waves and the drama of a kayaker out in the middle of it were just the perfect setup for some great images. To get these shots I set my camera to aperture priority set to F4 on my Canon 70-200 F4L. I had my lens racked out all the way to 200mm and had the ISO set to 200 so that I could get some fairly high speed images. The shutter speed for these shots was at about 1/500th of a second. I would have liked it a little faster, but I wanted to minimize any digital noise I would get by bumping up my ISO.

Day at the Beach

A good day at the beach.

Little Red Jumping Spider

Very close up view of a little fellow I found hunting on a railing today.

Seagull's Lunch

Taken at Ebey State Park on Whidbey Island today.

More macrophotography on my front porch

All images taken with a reversed Canon 50mm f1.8 lens. Recipe for the shots was the same: ISO 160, F5.6 (reversed), 1/250th of a second, flash fired at +2/3rd.

Bald Eagle Over Spencer Island

Went out to Spencer Island today with Cassandra and Bryson, we hid a new geocache there and also had a nice nature walk. This Eagle is part of a mated pair that are living near the island and flew overhead while we walked along. Cool!
