Painted Lady Butterfly on Red Gerbera Daisy

Taken with the 18-55 mm EFS lens (reversed) that comes with the Canon Eos 20D kit. I bought a special adapter from Hong Kong for about $10 a few weeks back that allows me to seat a reversed lens onto my camera using the filter threads. Works pretty well too! Taken at 1/40th of a second at F22 using ISO 200 RAW.

200th Post! Fun in the Kitchen

I made quite a mess in the kitchen today. The bottom shot is of a strawberry dropping into some 7-UP, I had hoped the extra fizz from the drink would help out, but the image kind of falls flat on its face due to the fact that I needed to use a glass that doesn't have beveled edges, perhaps even a fishbowl or something like that would be better. The top image I'm a little happier with, I dropped the strawberry in a small dish of half and half. Although I made a bit of a mess, I had help cleaning it up from our cat, who was more than happy to take care of the half and half!

Smith Rock State Park

Hiked all around and up and down Smith Rock State Park today. I have many, many shots to share, but I thought I'd throw this one up real quick before bedtime. Stay tuned!
Edit: I reworked and reposted this image. I felt it needed a bit more color saturation, so I corrected that. This is an HDR shot. Images were taken at F22 with shutter speeds of: /10th, 1/40th and 1/3rd of a second.

Visited Fort Rock today. Took some photos of some of the structures inside of it. Here are some color and black and white versions of the same photo. Enjoy! More photos to come.

Playing with High Dynamic Range

Two shots of Mt. Bailey near Diamond Lake, Oregon. I used a trial version of some automated HDR software called "Photomatix". I highly recommend it. In the black and white image I went a step further and used the calculations menu in photoshop to create what I hope is a rather dramatic black and white shot. Which is your favorite? Drop me a line! Thanks.

Sunset Over Klamath Lake

I had to work late in Klamath Falls today, heres a shot of the sun setting behind the mountains as seen from highway 97 about 20 miles north of Klamath Falls. I know that I haven't had a post in a very long time and everybody is eager to hear about the move, believe me, theres much more to come! Right now though, I have other things to do. Check back soon!

ACK! Sorry about the lack of posts lately!

Okay, the holidays are over, normal life is returning. Will be posting a bunch of stuff, including holiday pix for the family, real soon. In the meantime, heres a couple of random images that I've been working on lately.

Seattle-Portland-Spokane #700 Steam Locomotive

Heres another take on the previous photo. The sepia effect and film grain were created using Google's free Picasa photo software.

SP&S 700 Locomotive

Heres a shot I took of the holiday excursion train making runs near Oaks Park Amusement Center. You can find out more about the train here.

Jet Engine

Heres a repost of a shot I did a while back, here I converted it to black and white using the calculations method. I really like the detail captured in this shot, and the different, subtle shades that play upon the varying surfaces.

Playing Around With Faux Infra-Red Effects

Ah, having fun with the channel mixer in Photshop. Try it out yourself. Select the "Create fill or new adjustment layer" icon at the bottom of your layers palette, select "channel Mixer" and use these properties: Red -50, Green +200, Blue -50. Turns all your green leaves and stuff into gold.
